Building Your Mind + Body + Soul

The Elkins/Randolph County YMCA

Mar 19, 2020
Dear members,
These are unprecedented times. COVID-19 is a global pandemic and a national emergency, and nobody is certain what the next days, weeks or months hold.
It’s been difficult for us to decide how best to serve the community. The Y brings people together and creates personal connections.
But the nature of this virus, and how it spreads, presents significant challenges to how we deliver our mission and programs. What is the role of a YMCA at a time when people are being advised to keep their distance from each other?
We were hoping to continue to allow members access to the facility. However, we have a greater responsibility to the community to do everything in our power to help prevent the spread of this virus. And so, we have decided that we must temporarily close the facility.
We will close Tuesday March 17th at 12:00 pm. We understand that closing our facility will affect many of our members. During this closure, you can expect updates from us via email, on our website at www.elkinsymca.com and on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/YmcaElkins. Please direct any inquiries to our e-mail address at info@elkinsymca.com.
We will work with local officials to determine what other actions, if any, would be prudent on our part and when it will be safe to reopen our facilities.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this evolving and challenging situation. We look forward to returning to business as usual as soon as possible.
With gratitude,
Sid Gillispie
Executive Director
Elkins-Randolph County YMCA
We understand that you may have questions about the closure of our YMCA facilities:
When will the Y open again?
The Y will reassess the situation on an ongoing basis and will update members no later than March 27th regarding the status of facilities and programming from that point forward.
Have any Elkins YMCA members tested positive for COVID-19?
No. At this time, we are not aware of any staff, volunteers, members or participants who have tested positive for COVID-19.
I was in the Y recently, should I be concerned?
We all need to be aware of the potential spread of the virus and monitor ourselves and loved ones for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you or a loved one develop these symptoms, please stay home and speak to your healthcare provider. For more information go to the CDC information page on COVID-19 to learn what you need to know and what to do if you are sick.
