Building Your Mind + Body + Soul

The Elkins/Randolph County YMCA

May 18, 2020

Dear members,

Welcome Back to the Y

Thank you for staying with us during these incredibly challenging times. We are excited to share with you that we are preparing to reopen the facility. Our target date is Tuesday, May 26th following the holiday weekend.

You may have already read Governor Jim Justice’s guidelines for gyms and wellness centers. If not, you can read them here. As you will see, there are several requirements that we must implement to reopen the facility.

For a while, the way we will interact with each other will be different, but at the Y, you will always be able to connect with people and improve your health and wellness. In the coming days, information will be posted on our website about the steps we are taking to provide members with the safest experience we can. Here is some basic information about what has temporarily changed:

  • Based on the guidelines provided by the state; locker rooms, the racquetball court, gymnasium, and pool may not open at this time.
  • Equipment in the weight room and cardio room have been spaced to allow for social distancing.
  • We are asking members to wipe down the equipment before and after use. We are also recommending that members wear a face covering, to the extent possible, to comply with the Governor’s guidelines.
  • During this phase of reopening, the use of the facility is only available to members. We are not offering day or guest passes, and we will not honor visiting nationwide memberships at this time.
  • All members will be required to enter the facility through the lobby. Members must check in AND out with the front desk staff so that we can monitor occupancy levels to comply with the Governor’s guidelines.
  • We welcome our youth members to visit the facility to exercise, but children 12 and younger must be supervised by an adult.
  • For now, new and renewing memberships will be sold online or by phone only to help reduce transactions at the front desk.
  • Normal drafting for membership dues will resume June 1st. If you purchased a short-term membership prior to our closing, your membership end date will be extended to account for the time lost.

Prior to your first visit to the facility, we are required by our insurance company to collect new membership waivers. We will be emailing members a link to the waiver, which can be completed online. You can also print a copy from our website here or complete a waiver at the facility.

For the week of May 26th, we will initially offer limited hours of operation. We will confirm these hours later this week. We look forward to expanding our hours and programs in the weeks to come. We will keep members updated on when we can resume classes, expand facility access, and offer childcare services.

One final note, please be patient and kind with our member services staff! Our staff are all working together to implement these new requirements and they will need your support and cooperation to make these temporary changes work.

We’re so happy to welcome you back. Together, we’re a better us!
